We reverse natural history when we work with clay. Once heated rock, clay is formed by erosion, carried by wind and water and deposited in various places. We then reform the clay into new shapes and heat it to harden into stone like objects.

I am moved by this natural history and by the histories of people who have molded clay since ancient times. Clay has been used to function as bowls and cups and other containers and to express ideas both social and spiritual throughout the ages.

My work is connected to this history and expresses a personal perspective within this ongoing art form. I would like people to experience the objects as clay but also as revealing feelings and thoughts, many of which continue the use of form in symbolic ways.
